A BRUSH WITH NEAR TRAGEDY!!
Today we went to our friends house to swim. The pool is 3-5 feet from end to end with a ledge around the walls. The big boys were having a blast. My gf and I were watching and talking. Suddenly Holden (AJ's friend) SCREAMS -- "LUKE!!!!" And dives UNDER THE WATER to lift him out. AJ was out of the pool and RUNS to where Luke was FLOATING IN A STANDING POSITION UNDER THE WATER. Holden pulls Luke out of the water and screams at him/shakes him. Luke's lips are white......he begins to shake and cry and cough up water. My son was only in the water less than 15 seconds but it was long enough that he was very weak when I grabbed him from Holden.
After about 20 minutes or so of snuggling, rocking, talking and holding him like crazy, he started bouncing back to his normal self. After about an hour, he was ready to go back in the water. I have NEVER been calm in all my life but as soon as I recount this to ALan, I am sure that I will fall apart. I didn't tell him about it yet b/c he's at work.
We have NO IDEA how he ended up where he did. He was OUTSIDE the pool when I turned around - No splash, nothing!!! Oh God, it was horrendous and eye-opening!!! The next minute Holden was screaming for Luke. Luke did not have his swim ring on like he usually does. I think he didn't realize he didn't have it on and got to close to the edge. With all the noise the kids were making, no one heard him go in.
MY BABY BOY COULD HAVE DROWNED IN THE 10 SECONDS THAT I WASN'T WATCHING HIM. DO NOT EVER LET YOUR KIDS NEAR THE POOL WITHOUT A FLOTATION DEVICE OF SOME SORT! LUKE WILL NOT GET BACK IN THE POOL WITHOUT HIS LIFE VEST UNTIL HE IS AN ACTUAL SWIMMER!!! NEVER!!!
Luke is fine now and banging off the walls like usual. He went right back in the pool but not without one of us being right there with him!!! Holden and AJ are my HEROES TODAY!!! Hold your babies closer.......I could have very well lost one of mine this morning!

I am so happy that your son is fine now. Thank God for Holden! What a scary day!!!
Glad to hear that Luke is ok. That must have been so scary!
It's amazing how ones life can flash before your eyes. I am so glad he is Ok.
My nephew suffered a near drowning after being in the water 5 to 7 minute. He know has severe brain damage.
I think you have a beautiful family and I am so very glad Luke is doing fine.
OMG...Pools and kids make me sooo very nervous...Amen that everything is ok!
My daughter Payton had a near drowning when she was 3. She was under for 2 minutes when she too took her swiming device off. We could have lost her. I gained a new opinion of floatation devices that day and found that it is the same as the opinion of most experts...no floaties ever! McKenna knew from the beginning of her swimming experience that she could not swim and would sink if she jumped in. The ER doc who took care of Payton told me that most drownings occur when people are in the pool and nobody notices. Praise God someone noticed! Anything that gives them a false sense of security around the water that they can forget that they don't have on is potentially dangerous. Technically, even life jackets are dangerous if they know how to take them off. One of my older son's swim coaches asked to teach Payton how to swim. She had to pry her off my body screaming to get her in. In a couple of months, she was swimming well enough to save her life. She first taught her life saving techniques such as the bottom bump so that she would know how to bump up to the surface and look for the side or yell for help. I know your nightmares tonight...I have been there.
Love ya!

Thank goodness!!! I know you must have really been scared.
Thanks also for your response to my blog. I am still shaking as I type. Joe says it is probably just a "troll", but the whole issue has been weighing on my mind lately, and I just had to lay it out there. I am thinking about going private with my blog....
Kristi,
I am so glad Luke is okay. I can't imagine...
