Sayaxche, Peten, Guatemala (Edited to add info)

Here's a link to a blog that a family keeps regarding Sydney's birth area. It's very interesting to see pictures of where Sydney is from. Wondering if I might be "seeing" where her birthmother lives...... Really really cool!!

We are good friends with everyone in the gov’t here, and I can tell you that N-O-T-H-I-N-G is going to happen with your paperwork until the new gov’t takes over in mid-January. The people in charge of all that paper work have serious and very real reason to fear being killed and burned alive if anyone hears even a hint or whisper that they are doing adoption paperwork.

Around here, the people think – they TRULY BELIEVE – that “adoption” = organ donation. They think that these babies go to the US to have their organs harvested…they really do. AND SO…the muni corporation, after what happened here in July, made a “law” that NO adoption paperwork is to happen for the rest of their term whatsoever – and that is until mid-January.

It’s not really “the government” because the Federal Gov’t give the order for the paperwork to be issued, but, the problem…it’s the people. And, the people working in the local gov’t are in serious fear for their lives, and so the secretary who is in charge of doing the final paperwork he says he doesn’t care if he gets sent to jail but he’s not doing one more thing. His house was ransacked and he was run out of town for weeks – had he been found that night in July he WOULD be dead now…

My husband was actually almost killed over it…we were run out of town also…the police that are higher up than the police are even worried for us and think that we should get the heck outta’ Dodge…that it’s not safe for us to be here anymore because of all this…

SO…have patience…and don’t be too frustrated with the “Guat Gov’t” over this…it’s ignorance that’s in the way of your child coming home!!! But, don’t plan on anything happening till mid-January. We haven’t talked to the new mayor about that in particular yet, but, we’re not sure WHAT in the world they’re even going to do it’s such a scary issue right now…
